U.S.A. : Humanitarian protections for people seeking safety are being dismantled.

The U.S. Supreme Court is siding with policies that undermine protections for people seeking safety and reverse decades of humanitarian safeguards.

1️⃣ Mullin v. Doe

The decision to allows authorities to revoke TPS status puts hundreds of thousands of people at risk of losing protection and immediate deportation.

There are reports of refugees being returned to danger, including to countries they’ve never lived in, classified by the U.S. government as “no-travel” zones.

2️⃣ Mullin v. Al Otro Lado

This decision removes a critical legal pathway to challenge violations of asylum rights, making it much harder to hold authorities accountable.Even after this ruling, U.S. authorities are still required to assess and process asylum claims.

Yet, advocates report a very different picture:

“a pregnant mother and her three children were turned away in 98°F heat after officers reportedly said they ‘didn’t feel like processing’ her claim”.

- Angelo Guisado, Center for Constitutional Rights

These decisions represent a wider erosion of legal protections for women, men, and children fleeing war, persecution, and extreme danger.

What does the right to seek safety mean if there is no meaningful way to access protection?
