BULGARIA: ASYLUM SEEKERS SPEAK OUT
These testimonies are difficult to read. But we need to listen.
The words in this post come from asylum seekers detained in Bulgaria in August 2025. Across detention centres, people describe constant physical violence, psychological abuse, and intimidation by border guards and authorities.
There is overwhelming evidence that these abuses are not isolated incidents, but part of a wider system operating increasingly removed from public scrutiny, as detention centres are relocated away from from major cities.
The more we uncover about what happens inside Bulgaria’s migration system, the more alarming it becomes.
