Rescuers on Trial - HRS
Seán Binder spoke with Saff from Human Rights Solidarity about the resilience of humanitarians and the imperative to defend justice.
“One of the important developments in my own prosecution, isn’t so much that I now face 20 years in prison, it’s that people like you now face it. All of us who are engaged in humanitarian activity, or in showing solidarity, or insisting on the application and the access of all people to their human rights, all of us face prosecution. That point really became clear to me the day after I was put into pre-trial prison, because on that day, the civilian SAR organisations that I had worked with stopped working. Because they were afraid that they too could be targeted. From my perspective that’s exactly the goal behind these prosecution.” - Seán
